Beautiful Japanese Antique Pottery Jar/1573-1600/"Tanba" Ware

About the Item

This is called "Tambaware" in Japan. Tamba is a historic kiln located in Hyogo prefecture, Japan. (The part marked with a red circle on the map is the Tamba kiln) It is said to have originated around the 12th century. In Japan, there are six typical kilns that still have a long history, and this is one of them. This item is a pot that was made between 1573 and 1600. The Momoyama period is slightly older than the Edo period. A characteristic of Tamba ware is that when it is baked, the surface turns a beautiful reddish brown. One of the characteristics of Tamba ware is that the left and right balance is even, and even when viewed from above, there is no distortion and it is beautifully made. In addition, since the same kind of product was published in the art book, the photograph is posted. And above all, the pattern on the baked surface is very beautiful. The pattern is determined by the condition of the flame in the kiln, It has a particularly beautiful view. It can be rotated 360 degrees and has a different look no matter which angle you look at it from. This pot has a lacquer lid, It is believed that they were used as tea utensils with water filled inside. (In addition, the lacquer lid has a white cloudy part due to aging.) Also, since this registration is very old, there are some thin cracks in some places. The mouth has two red circles. There are also some places where I took pictures from the inside. However, in the past, it was repaired by repair craftsmen to prevent water leakage by filling it with water leakage prevention putty. The surface of the repaired part is painted in the same color as the original, so it does not interfere with the viewing. Older ones are often repaired like this, but this is a particularly good repair. In addition, the bottom part is written in kanji "Tanba" and "Momoyama period". Kanji characters with the same meaning are also written on the dedicated wooden storage box. Presumably the previous owner took good care of it. Since it is a rare item, why not display it in your living room? Also, I want many people to know the goodness of antiques, so I set the price reasonably. Weight: 2.75kg
