Coluna vase Tall in Pasta Grés Chamotada Handcrafted in Portugal

About the Item

The Coluna vases are a set of hand thrown vases, where the strict geometric vessels juxtaposes the character of the textured clay. The vases are handcrafted by master ceramicist João Lourenço using Pasta Grés Chamotada - he experimented by mixing different grain sizes to create a coarse clay that resembles rammed earth. João, driven by his passion for this craft, has explored throughout the years different ceramic pastes, oven temperatures and firing techniques, allowing him to create a unique material with rich earth tones and a granular surface. Hallgeir Homstvedt approached the design of the Coluna Vases from a functional starting point and created two different volumes for medium sized bouquets or larger assemblies with shorter stems. Material: Pasta Grés Chamotada Due to this material and handcrafted process, the vases might present some different shades and color variations. The final texture, consistency and color of the piece depends on the firing conditions. Observations of such differences across products or orders does not constitute a basis for order cancellation or product returns. All of our pieces are uniquely handcrafted and no one is the same as the other. While the product has already been delicately hand glazed by the craftsperson, it may not be fully waterproof. Designer Hallgeir Homstvedt holds a BA of Industrial Design and honors from Newcastle University in Australia. After completing his degree in 2006, Hallgeir went on to work for the pioneer design studio Norway Says before opening his own design studio in 2009. Hallgeir has exhibited his work in London, Tokyo, Oslo, New York & Milan and has since received a number of design awards. Working in fields of furniture, interior and product design, Homstvedt makes products that are tactile, interactive and engages the observer's curiosity. Craftsmen Working from his atelier in Barcelos, João Lourenço is a ceramic artist and master potter, one of the few craftsmen remaining who is experienced in producing objects in the traditional technique of Barro Preto. He also makes objects in terracotta, pasta greis chamotada and exhibits his hand made ceramics at local craft fairs. A man dedicated to his craft, full of positivity and openness, João was the first craftsman we collaborated with and fully embodies the spirit of Origin Made. Care Instructions: Use a dry soft cloth Do not use household cleaners.
