Italy Geometric Vase in Red & Blue Murano Glass Attributed to Flavio Poli 1970s

About the Item

Vase of geometric shape in red and blue Murano glass, whose creation is attributed to Flavio Poli in the 1970s Ø 8 cm, h 20 cm Flavio Poli was born in 1900 in Chioggia and is known for being a great Italian ceramist, draftsman and painter. Poli is known as the "glass artist" for his contribution to the development of Murano glass, promoting a new style during the 1950s that became known as the "submerged style." In 1934 he began working as a glassmaker for the he Barovier, Seguso, & Ferro company in Murano (which later became Seguso Vetri d'Arte), of which he became partner and artistic director. During these years of career he designed together with Archimede Seguso, creating complex lighting installations in Murano glass In the postwar years he conceived the style of submerged glass, a technique created by superimposing different layers from glass with different consistencies of colors, introducing in this way glass with a strong thickness that is in stark contrast to the processes then in vogue in the Murano world, thus accomplished a very important innovation for the time that allowed him to win the prize Golden compass. Poli is known and appreciated for the theme of the female nude, where he was the first to tackle this theme in Murano where we can see it in the composter from the 1930s, a central female bust with a grip function. During his career Flavio Poli conceived different objects representing always different subjects, as for the Compagnia di Venezia and Murano which made massive animals in glass.
