Japanese Contemporary Three-Piece Blue Porcelain Lidded Vase by Master Artist

About the Item

Exceptional Japanese contemporary large three-piece decorative porcelain lidded vase/jar, intricately hand-painted in cobalt blue underglaze on an elegantly shaped body with two beautiful handles, a signed masterpiece by highly acclaimed master porcelain artist from the historic Imari-Arita region of Japan and recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and his unique gold and platinum work on porcelain. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese Porcelain in thr Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. The artist's profile is available upon request. One of the scalloed panels showcases rocky shorelines with cliffs and old pine trees gracefully reaching out all the way to the clouds at the top of the vase, with distant mountain peaks as the background. The other panel depicts the Great Wall of China with the same cliff and pine tree motif, a majestic scene. In both panels the painting continues to showcase the mountain peaks seen in the distance. The natural scenery of vast mountains and flowing rivers expresses a calm and mysterious world far from the busy life of the modern world. The panels are surrounded by a breathtaking arabesque or karakusa pattern in coblt blue underglaze, set against a pure white background. Arabesque is an auspicious traditional pattern symbolizing longevity and prosperity because it extends in all directions without interruption. The ornamental porcelain pieces that traveled from the port of Imari to Europe in 17th and 18th century adorned royal palaces and aristocratic mansions, and had a huge influence on producing fine porcelain abroad. The contemporary Imari porcelain in the same graceful and splendid style that fascinated Europe in the 17th and 18th century still attracts the hearts with its luxurious charm. The exquisite shape and the mesmerizing motifs make this a piece that stands out and invites the viewer to approach and explore the details. This unique porcelain lidded vase comes in a custom-made wooden case signed by the artist. Dimensions: H 19 in D 8.5 in.

It was decorated with underglaze white magnolia blossom on a pleasant celadon background. The stamens of the flower were artistically rendered in a low relief, giving the design a realistic appeal with the dimension. Miyagawa Kozan...

  • Pair Japanese Porcelain Lidded Vases Imari Hand Painted, Edo Period circa 1830
    Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
These are a high quality pair of very decorative gilded hand enameled Japanese porcelain lidded vases which we date to the Edo period of the 19th century, circa 1830. Each vase has a baluster open necked shape and has been hand painted in an Imari design with varying shades of under-glaze cobalt blue, with over-glaze burnt orange, salmon and grey enamels. The decoration alternates around the central section with many flowers, buildings, fences and other motifs. The quality of the painting is high and there are border designs around the vases and the lids. There are no marks to the base. Overall a very beautiful pair of Japanese vases. Notes: Imari porcelain is the name given to Japanese export porcelain...
