Louis DAGE French Art Deco Sunflower Stoneware Vase, Late 1920s

About the Item

French Art Deco stoneware vase by Louis DAGE (Antony, Paris), France, late 1920s. Sunflower vase. Important enamel applications. Height: 19.3"(49cm), Width: 8.25"(21cm). Signed "L.Dage" in the decor (see photo). Louis Dage starts his career in the Fives-Lille earthenware factory. After a short stay in Saint-Aubin-en-Bray, he continues his training in Beauvais where Greber and Auguste Delaherche factories are located. In 1920, he sets up the Faïencerie d'Art in Antony (Paris) with Louis Fontinelle who was specialist in animal ceramic. Eugène Val will come later as partner. In 1924, Louis Dage wins the famous « Meilleur ouvrier de France » award. In the early 1930s, he works for the decoration of the liner Le Normandie. In 1935, he will manage the Saint-Sever (Landes) earthen ware factory. The bronze mounts sometimes appearing in Louis Dage's pieces were the work of André Villen, whose dealer was Eugène Val.
