About the Item
Large, sixteen inch tall, Murano glass vase made in Italy in 1987 by Matteo Thun for Barovier & Toso. Signed and dated by the designer. This vase has a sculptural, totem-like design that is reinforced by its geometric shapes. A half sphere base and a cone mouth opening each punctuated by spheres between a long cylindrical neck.
One of the founding members of Memphis, Thun continues to invigorate the senses by creating objects that are dreamy and whose functionality is an afterthought. Indicative of Thun's style, this vase reinvents the archetype of its genre by incorporating several unpredictable forms: spheres, cones. Thun's ceaselessly creative mind and focus on tactility in his designs produces a kind of talisman for the home out of an object that others may take for granted.
