Mid-Century Modern Brown Ceramic Vase by VEB Haldensleben, East Germany, 1960s

About the Item

This mid-century cool brown ceramic case by VEB Haldensleben was made in DDR (Deutsche Demokratische Republik), East Germany, in the 1960s. This vase, a VEB Haldensleben's creation, is a prime example of their ceramic vases, shape number 3092/C, featuring an intriguing brown glaze adorned with alternating rows of red and white circles, each contoured by a bold black "fat lava" glaze. This vintage piece, measuring H 20 cm and Ø8.5 cm, encapsulates the timeless charm of East German pottery from the mid-20th century. Founded in 1945, VEB Haldensleben originated from the Carstens Uffrecht factory. The acronym "VEB" stands for "Volkseigener Betrieb," which translates to "people-owned enterprise" and denotes state-owned workplaces in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). VEB Haldensleben is known for its unique ceramics, often featuring a distinctive numbering system where form numbers are frequently followed by a letter. Many pieces also bear the VEB Haldensleben symbol, which is moulded onto the base, serving as a hallmark of authenticity and origin.
