Modernist Clarice Cliff Style Hand Painted Geometric Vase with Elongated Neck

About the Item

A vintage circa 1980's or 1990's hand painted pottery vase. The bold, geometric and Modernist style decoration is presented in full color against a black painted counterpoint. The conical base is accentuated by a slender elongated neck capped by the flat disc like top. There is a slim hole at the top. The piece is unsigned and unknown as to authorship but is reminiscent of the work of Clarice Cliff. For a little background on Ms. Cliff, I offer this excerpt from WikiPedia "Clarice Cliff (20 January 1899 – 23 October 1972) was an English ceramic artist and designer. Active from 1922 to 1963, Cliff became the head of the factory creative department... She covered the imperfections in simple patterns of triangles, in a style that she called 'Bizarre.'... From 1927 Cliff was credited for shapes she designed, such as her Viking Boat flower holder, though her modelling for the factory is recorded in the trade journal only as far back as 1923–24. From 1929 onward, the shapes took on a more 'Moderne' influence, often angular and geometric, and some got what was to be later termed Art Deco."
