Murano Vase Masterpiece, Blooming Field with Poppies and Lavender, Signed

About the Item

The vase made with the same technique of the tumblers in another listing. After the success of the tumbler group, I asked the maestro to make a vase that would keep the design and the beauty of the finish. It came out a gem. About the finish: The original name is Campo fiorito con papaveri e lavanda. I designed this at the turn of the millennium for Nancy and Robert Frehling of Oggetti. I was experimenting with the piera working. This was used by the greatest glass designer. Gio Ponti did the straight canes "a canne" at Venini, Ercole Barovier worked on patching triangular pieces in the "Tessere" and Fulvio Bianconi with square elements in the "Pezzati" for Venini. Many glass makers did their version, Orlando Zennaro, almost unknown today, I considered the best. I sent to the maestro the design, with the lower part in straight canes ending at the top with pezzati. I asked him to slide in-between the canes a black small cane to mark the straw and the grass. I was so surprised that the tumbler was made. Bravissimo. Only one. I keep it as a trophy. So beautiful. It was a bit pricey for distribution so it was abandoned. I met the maestro in Murano after the acqua alta and we went back on memories and I told him I still have the Campo Fiorito tumbler. We agreed it is the right time to give to this design a second chance. Selling directly to the final consumer allows a reasonable price considering that each tumbler is a masterpiece of glass techniques and such a graceful piece. The lower part alternates Verde and Gaggia (bright yellow) with separation of a smalto nero mini cane. On the upper part there are pops of red, two amethyst, bluino and rose. It's a piera senza vetro, called roll up techniques where the glass is rolled up the pipe without a blob of glass. Each glass cane and element has to be perfectly fused to the next; this is called rimarginatura and then passed on the counter punty (pontello) and hand opened. Canes are not flattened and they keep a lens effect that makes a great play with light. Signed, this vase will no need flowers! Last photo shows the vase in proportion with the tumblers.

It is these unexpected structures that create in the artist’s eye, additional unique beauty in each piece. Enhanced by extra layers of colors and glazes, the resulting artworks combine spontaneity, charm, naivety, nature and storytelling.
