Pair Of French 19th Century Renaissance St. Onyx And Ormolu Urns/Ewers
About the Item
An elegant pair of French 19th century Renaissance st. onyx and ormolu urns/ewers. The pair are raised on square onyx plinths below circular ormolu bases with reeded borders and palmette shapes above. Above the base is an ormolu mount which supports the urn and is decorated by acanthus leaf designs. The mid section of the urn has a very decorative band in the manner of Clodion with cherubs playing musical instruments amidst the landscape. The very decorative handle is of a young winged mermaid which scrolls to join the neck and spout which are decorated by chased foliage. Wonderful proportion throughout.
