Pair of Japanese Cloisonne Lapis Enamel Dragon & Phoenix Bird Vases Ando Jubei

About the Item

A pair of rare identical antique Japanese Meiji era enamel vases. The amphora shaped vases are adorned with polychrome enamel panels depicting symmetrical images of Phoenix birds, qilins, and dragons surrounded by floral, and foliate scroll motifs made in the Cloisonne technique. The upper part is decorated with polychrome enamel medallions depicting dragons and butterflies surrounded by a foliate scroll ornament made in the same technique. The bases of the wares feature a geometrical pattern made in the Cloisonne technique. The ground is inlaid with Goldstone. Circa: late 19th century to early 20th century. Unmarked.
