About the Item
A pair of Meiji Period Japanese bronze vases.
This fine pair of late 19th century Japanese bronze vases are well proportioned and of a good decorative size. They are beautifully decorated with panels on one side with magpies amongst irises and the opposite with sparrows in a magnolia tree. They are cast and then finely hand finished with chasing from small chisels. They have mask head handles on each side and is raised on three legs with bat head mounts. The legs are fixed to a circular raised base with moulded decoration. This pair of vases are in excellent condition with dark brown original patination. Circa 1900.
Dimensions: W 13.5 cm (5.3") x D 13.5 cm (5.3") x H 40 cm (15.7").
