About the Item
Rare ceramic vase gourde by Primavera, manufactured in France in 1930s. Incredible decorative object with an incredible work of colors.
Story of an astonishing artistic adventure. Le Printemps was the first of the department stores to want to equip itself at the beginning of the 20th century with an original creative workshop thanks to the desire of two ardent supporters of the introduction of modernity in the decorative arts, Pierre Laguionie, young manager of the Printemps, and the lawyer René Guilleré, founder of the Society of Decorative Artists.
An astonishing artistic adventure.
In 1912, the two men founded the Primavera workshop (“spring” in Italian), which experienced rapid development after the First World War. Its goal: to make utilitarian or decorative objects accessible to all, which are beautiful, modern and high quality. Designers are hired, an earthenware factory is purchased in Touraine to ensure part of the production, other workshops or factories are called upon in the field of glass and ceramics... An original production is thus born.
Le Printemps puts significant promotional resources at the service of its young creative workshop and its participation in the main decorative arts fairs culminates with the construction of the Primavera pavilion at the 1925 Exhibition: millions of visitors discover objects and affordable furniture and a new aesthetic. To a modest clientele in love with modernity, Primavera supplies carpets, furnishing fabrics, fashionable wallpapers, and specializes in ceramic objects: vases, trinkets, figurines... The adventure continues under the protean leadership by Colette Gueden and ended in 1972, after sixty years of creations that had become synonymous with inventiveness and fantasy.
