Travertine Ashtray by Henry Wilson

About the Item

Travertine Ashtray by Henry Wilson Dimensions: D 20 x H 7 cm Materials: Travertine A contemporary take on a mid-century classic; Travertine Ashtray – a monolithic, sculptural piece crafted from solid travertine. It is intended as a whimsical reference to the outsized stone ashtrays that were attention-grabbing mainstays in many homes and offices between the 1960s and 1980s. The form is streamlined and robustly circular, with a discreet concavity but without the grooves traditionally used for placement of smokes-in-progress. The result is a versatile, highly tactile object that can easily accommodate smoking materials or serve as a receptacle for small everyday objects such as keys, paper clips or loose coins. Henry Wilson's work combines a rational, democratic utility with an element of sculptural expression. There is a clear form and function in our products, but it’s important they also have feeling. We are interested in the awkward beauty that comes from something made by hand. We like to explore how imperfection can be introduced into an Industrial process, to make something at scale that retains a sense of individual charm.
