English Victorian Ceramic "Whisky" Carafe In Caddy, c.1888

About the Item

A fabulous ceramic whisky flask or carafe, beautifully made with the body imitating basket weave with a life-like twisted rope border and handle. The lid is opened with the aide of a thumb lever revealing the original silver plate and cork stopper within, The silver plated caddy stands on four original bun feet and has two rope style handles. The caddy is fully marked for the well renowned silversmith, Mappin and Webb. The ceramic jug is fully marked on the underside for Taylor & Tunnicliffe and the British design registration number 101826 for the year 1888 which ties in perfectly with this style of backstamp. The pottery was active between 1867 and 1898 making these quality domestic wares. Excellent condition the handles spanning 6 1/2" x 4 3/4" x 7 1/2" tall. Item: 43145.
