The body of this impressive jug is embellished with impressive chased leaf decoration, alternating with curvilinear bud style festoons and tiered organic motifs. The upper rim of the jug is encompassed with an applied moulded border, continuing to the bear style spout. This impressive example of antique silverware is fitted with an opposing scroll handle ornamented with an impressive leaf decorated thumbpiece. The underside of the jug bears the retailer's mark 'Mappin & Webb, London'. This impressive jug was crafted by the renowned London silversmith John Newton Mappin of Mappin & Webb, and is a large example for its type. Condition This antique silver water jug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. Full British hallmarks struck to the surface of the jug are all very clear.
