Saint Louis "Tommy" Hand-Cut Crystal Bowl, France, 2022

About the Item

From its star-shaped base to the sparkling glints of the diamond, bevel, pearl and rim cuts, Tommy stands as a timeless collection since 1928. Its straight lines have afforded elegance to the most refined interiors, all the way to the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles. What if the exceptional became an everyday celebration? Tommy spreads out its audacious colours to offer functional new creations for contemporary uses. Born in 1586 the Muentzthal glassworks become "Verrerie Royale" ( Royal Glassworks) in 1767 through Louis XV's royal seal of approval. The master glassmakers, proud and secretive, blew, engraved and cut glass without respite in their endeavor to produce the finest and most trasparent glass possible. Italy and Bohemia were already producing crystalline but it was the Englishman George Ravenscroft who perfected the technique for making genuine crystal. In 1781, expert at Saint-Louis solved the mystery. Since 1829, renamed "Cristallerie Royale de Saint Louis", the maufacture is exclusively devoted to the production of crystal-glass items and introduced the concept of a set of glasses for dining table with the Trianon service. Through aesthetic and formal innovation, rewarded with gold medals and lackened orders, the art of living in crystal will seduce the whole world.

Drawings of the gods decorate plates, placeholders, cups and vases, and bold, unexpected colours infuse the chinaware with personality. With Il Viaggio di Nettuno collection, Ginori 1735 reinterprets the table in a modern vein with uniquely designed objects that are veritable artistic installations.
