About the Item
Copalera No. 4 Incense Burner by Acoocooro
Dimensions: Ø 16 x H 9.5 cm.
Materials: Crema maya (Yucatán peninsula marble) incense burner and lid.
Veining and mineral composition may give unique appearance to each piece.
Copalera create a play between their soft appearance and the heaviness of their function and ambiguous materiality. They suggest the prescence of magical events, of an intimate ritual. They show evidence of a ceremony's emotional archeology: the burning of copal (aromatic resin) and fragrant herbs, used to purify the place where the ritual takes place, as well as its participants.
Founded in 2017 by Martín Diego Salido-Orcillo and Antonio Mendoza Bravo, ACOOCOORO is a furniture, lighting and artifacts studio, a lab, focused on aesthetic and historic research, on objects' narrative and emotional relation with individuals and space.
Every object, every piece, more than a product in a collection, is the result of exploration and experimentation through materials, processes and artisanal work. These elements fill every one of them with history, stories and memories: those of the individuals that conceive and create them, and those of the people that live their lives through and with them.
Silent Design, finally, is a guiding principle in ACOOCOORO's practice, whenever the collaboration with artisan groups is involved, with a complex yet clear goal: the establishment of non-extractive, cooperative, self-sufficient relations, where craftsmanship, economic benefit, authorship, property, and narrative are reclaimed by and rebalanaced in favor of the artisans themselves, and not
the designers.

Galerie Philia
Galerie Philia is an international contemporary sculptural design and art gallery representing emerging and established designers and artists. The gallery is the brainchild of two brothers who share a lifetime passion for art, literature and philosophy. Their distinct academic background sets them apart from their peers, as it sees them following a rhizomatic and transcultural approach in the way they select works. This involves combining elements from multiple cultures in what becomes a network of harmoniously interconnected roots, ultimately revealing the beauty of each unique creation. The gallery’s non-hierarchical curation sits apart from the ephemerality of trends and focuses instead on the true aesthetic quality of the piece – alluring and timeless. Unlike others, Galerie Philia does not focus on a single style – whether minimalist, organic or raw – but rather embraces heterogeneity. The Galerie Philia takes pride in discovering new talents, providing them with multiple international platforms to showcase their latest creations. As well as propelling the newest generation of 21st century collectible design, Galerie Philia also works with internationally known design artists. Galerie Philia has a strong international presence, with galleries in Geneva, New York and Singapore. In addition to their permanent spaces, the gallery organizes temporary group exhibitions and artists residencies in first-class locations around the world.

The idea was born after deciding to reconnect with my family and my grandfather – a sculptor artist. Learning to sculpt and being a designer compelled me to combine these two mediums and use their best values. Experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the meaning of furniture led me to create the collection. Studio AOAO is an interdisciplinary studio combining art and design. It was created by Alicja Strzyzynska and Onur Iseri in Amsterdam in 2020. “We specialise in making sculptural pieces by experimenting with the functionality of sculpture and the meaning of furniture. In our works, we focus on the emotional connection between the object and the user. All of our work seeks the experience of intimacy and the metaphysical bond between personal interaction and meaningful narrative. Through sculptural value and reflective design, we aim to create pieces that last for generations and help reduce environmental waste.” The inspiration to sculpt came from Alicja’s roots, her grandfather – an artist sculptor. Alicja completed Masters of Arts Degree in Product and Visual Communication Design at Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts and finished her bachelor degree in Interior Architecture. Alicja previously worked in Tokyo and Amsterdam in architectural design studios. Onur completed his business studies in Japan and worked in digital design & marketing as well as teaching in Tokyo.
