Biedermeir Style Bohemia Pair of Ruby Red Crystal Bottles Cut and Grinded

About the Item

We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Spectacular and striking pair of ruby red crystal bottles; made between 1920 and 1925 in northern Bohemia in the area of Jablonec nad Nisou, in one of the many artisan workshops of the place where the processing, blowing, manipulation, carving, and decoration of glass have had since ancient times their greatest splendor, where even today are concentrated many stores and stores of artists and designers to whom we owe the perpetuation of delicate and ancient art. The bottles have the classic elongated bulb shape and they are both surmounted by an elegant ground cap on the tip; the carvings and the polished grindings are contrasted with the delicate geometrical engravings, a classic of Bohemian decoration of the early years of '900. One bottle is slightly lower than the other and has a more intense coloration of the neck, they were handcrafted one after the other, therefore certainly not in series!!! The beautiful and intense ruby color is the result of the long experimentation made during the times by Bohemian artists in glassworks, they managed to exalt a whole range of colors, they obtained blue from cobalt, green from copper or chrome, fluorescent yellow, green from uranium, but the ruby red with gold and copper is the apotheosis of their research. When the crystal was discovered in Italy in 1450, obtainable with the addition of sodium and manganese to glass, Bohemia, an ancient region of Central Europe, already renowned for the production and processing of glass, immediately welcomed the novelty, but only in the 1600s, the Bohemians discovered all the secrets to give life to the most beautiful and luminous crystal ever seen: Bohemian crystal was born. Our bottles enclose and transmit these wonderful stories, are two objects with a unique identity with plays of light and reflections extraordinary, full of elegance and refinement, usually these original types of bottles are found individually, finding them in pairs is quite rare, and that is why our couple assumes a very interesting peculiarity, we managed to find them in a small antique store in Karlovy Vary, a small town in West Bohemia known for its spas and the ancient tradition of glass. The bottles are in good condition. Measures diameter cm.13, height cm.42. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.

Exceptional and valuable whiskey bottle; has been made with a lead crystal of the highest quality with a high thickness in order to grind it deeper than normal, which allows the light to reflect in a much brighter and more brilliant way; in order for this to happen, the geometry of the grinding is also specially designed and executed. The bottle turns out to be much heavier than others on the market. We must at this point make an important clarification about the finishing of our bottle: towards the end of the 1960s, acid crystal polishing was devised in Germany; the object was immersed and rotated in a solution of sulfuric acid, fluoridic acid, and water and in a short time all the defects left by previous processes were eliminated; it was a fast, industrial operation that allowed costs to be lowered considerably, with discrete but not excellent results. This method is still used today for almost all crystal objects. But for our bottle, traditional hand polishing was used with cork wheels immersed in pumice and cerium oxide dissolved in water, which thanks to their abrasive and polishing action give the product a perfect polish. The squares of the bottle were individually polished one by one, as well as the horizontal and vertical grindings by two specialized craftsmen who took about two days of work, achieving a very high standard of quality on an artifact of inestimable value. The bottle was made between 1990 and 1995 by Moleria Locchi...
