James Dixon & Sons 1891 Sheffield Large Liquor Flask in Sterling and Crocodile

Liquor flask bottle designed by James Dixon & Sons. Very handsome and handy liquor flask bottle, created in Sheffield England by the silversmith James Dixon & Sons, back in the 1891. This beautiful large liquor flask has been crafted in solid sterling silver of .925/.999, clear glass and crocodile leather. Fitted on top with a screwed hinged lid and a brand new replaced cork. Weight: 372.7 Grams, (238.9 Dwt). Measurements: 180.3 mm by 95.2 mm by 35 mm (7.1 x 3.75 x 1.37 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with British marks for the city of Sheffield, the maker's mark associated to James Dixon & Sons, the letter Y inside a cartouche for the production year of 1891, the silver assay mark and signed, "JD&S Y". James Dixon & Sons, was founded in 1806 in Sheffield, was one of the major British manufacturers of the Industrial Revolution. They were manufacturers of pewterware, electroplated Britannia metal, silverware and electroplated nickel silver. Their products included hundreds of items for use in the kitchen (e.g. bowls, cutting-tools) and the dining room (e.g. tea services, cocktail shakers and mixers) as well as items such as candlesticks. They were a world leader in manufacturing shooting accessories through nineteenth century and exported powder flasks in large quantities to America, They were known as whistle makers, which like most of their products were of outstanding quality; they were one of the 4 great whistle makers, the others being W Dowler & Sons, J Stevens & Son & T Yates. It was located first at Silver Street (1806), Cornish Place (1822) Sheffield. Monograms: No. Condition: The overall condition of this flask is excellent. Beside the little normal wear, there is no damage to the silver, the glass or the leather. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity.
