About the Item

Large 18th century Delft chinoiserie polichrome Delftware dish / Charger Material: Delft, earthenware, pottery. Design: chinoiserie Style: Baroque, Louis XIV, Antique, Asian antique, Oriental Origin: Netherlands, Delft 1st half 18th century ca 1720 - 1740 The plate is marked and made by the Delft manufactory the Peacock. An almost identical plate is in the Museum collection of Den Hague ( see pictures). Colors: Blue , white, red and green Description: early 18th century Delft blue and white dish. This Delft dish or Charger is a made after a Chinese dish from 17th century The border with large panels with peach and auspicious symbols separated by narrow panels with a floral pattern in the center a flower Condition: good, the dish has deformation and the rim has glaze loss, chips and superficial wear which is typical of this type of Delftware. Diameter 13.6 in - 34.5 cm Height 1.8 in - 4.5 Delftware or Delft pottery is also known as Delft tinglazed earthenware. Delftware includes pottery objects of all descriptions such figurines, plates, vases and other ornamental forms and tiles. The start of the Delft style was around 1600. the most highly regarded period of production is about 1640–1740. Delftware continues to be produced. Arround 1640 Delft potters began using personal monograms and distinctive factory marks. Throughout the 17th and 18th centuries Delftware was a major industry, exporting all over Europe.
