Antique Pair of Savona Majolica Serving Plates

About the Item

Antique pair of Savona Majolica serving dishes. Painted in blue, one depicts a satyr, putti and two young girls, all enjoying the new wine: the other is painted with an allegory of time. These charming meat plates were destined to be hung. They exhibit an enjoyment of the good things of life, like the grape harvest. Although very 17th century in spirit and in style of painting, the shape of these plates and the leafy borders suggest a date a little later.
