Majolica Jardiniere by Wasmuel, Circa 1880's

About the Item

Antique majolica jardiniere made in Belgium by Wasmuel in the late 19th century. I've never seen another jardiniere like this one with dogs on each side, a black brick background and children playing on the front with a lion and a dog. The piece has a Japonisme look feel to it. A former Onnaing manager Isidor Paulus started the Wasmel factory in 1834, he began majolica production in 1850 lasting until about 1914.
