Georgian Mason's Ironstone large Jug in Large Stamen Flower Ptn. Ca 1818
About the Item
This is a rare very early large jug or pitcher in one of the rarer shapes, hand painted in the large stamen flower pattern, made by Mason's Ironstone, Lane Delph, England and dating to circa 1813-1820.
The large Jug or pitcher is well potted with a round bulbous shape and high loop handle.
The pattern is hand painted with typical bold free flowing enamels of cobalt blue, blue, green and burnt orange, all in varying shades and with additional hand gilded highlights. This pattern is one of Mason's earliest and rarest chinoiserie influenced designs called "Large Stamen Flower", as illustrated on page 138 of a guide to Mason's patent ironstone patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club.
This jug or pitcher is un marked to the base, as was often the case in this period but it is definitely made by Mason's Ironstone.
