Sarreguemines Mid Century Set of Six Fish-Shaped Majolica Plates and Soup Tureen
About the Item
A gorgeous service of six fish-shaped majolica plates and soup tureen from the famous French company Sarreguemines.
The plates are round with delightful relief detailing of heads, fins and tails of great aesthetic appeal, as is the exceptional tureen also shaped like a fish and modelled all round.
The background colour is caramel ochre with delicate green hues towards the edges. Each plate has the trademark 'Sarreguemines' on the back.
The pattern of these plates continued to be produced for many decades and this particular service dates back to the late 1950s-1960s.
Majolica work was added to Sarreguemines production in 1860 and continued until 2007, when the factory finally closed.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Good condition. Defects due to the firing stage on the back, while on the surface there are glazing consistent with age. A small scratch on the edge of one plate shown in the photo, which still has its vitrified surface, due to manufacturing.
