Yongzheng Chinese Export Porcelain Armorial Plate with Arms of Gresley

About the Item

Chinese Export Armorial Porcelain Plate, Arms of Gresley Quarterly with Bowyer in Pretence, Yongzheng Period, 1735 This unusual Chinese Export porcelain armorial plate from the Yongzheng period is painted in Famille Rose enamels with the Arms of Gresley quarterly with Bowyer in pretence. The finely painted plate has the large coat of arms on the central well. The wide rim has well-enamelled branches of peony and butterflies. Most unusually, on the lower section of the border is a view of a fortified town with a crenellated wall with an arch below with large wooden doors, one slightly ajar. Beyond the wall can be seen a tall pagoda and a Chinese pavilion and a third building to the right. The dimensions of the plate are 9 inches (22.86cm) in diameter and 1 inch high. Reference: David S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, Vol. I, page 330. (Ref: NY10251-crkr)
