Art Deco Style Glass Comport, Gordon Studios, Melbourne, Dated 1996

About the Item

A fabulous large art glass comport in the art deco style from the renowned Gordon Glass Studios, Melbourne, Australia. This is an highly collectable Art Glass creation that was hand blown by Eileen Gordon and then intricately engraved with the complex 'Paradox Faces' design by her brother Kevin Gordon, signed to base and dated 1996. As one of the most internationally celebrated Art Glass families in Australia, the Gordon Studio Glassblowers consists of seven family members across three generations. The family’s love of the medium began in 1953 at the Edinburgh College of Art where Rish and Alasdair Gordon met, graduating with diplomas specialising in glass engraving. The couple worked at Hadelands Glassworks in Scotland before moving to Norway to raise their family. They later establish the Gordon Studio Glass Engravers. They emigrated to Australia in 1980 settling in Perth, where their daughter Eileen and son Kevin joined the Studio. In 2004 Eileen founded the Gordon Studio Glassblowers in Red Hill, near Melbourne, with her husband and fellow glassblower Grant Donaldson. Their two sons, Hamish and Calum Donaldson, have both grown up in the glass studio and are now emerging glass artists.
