French Art Nouveau Emile Galle 'Intaglio' Cameo Glass Vase

About the Item

Rare and interesting early Emile Galle cameo vase, c14 inches tall, decorated with 1908 chrysanthemum series probably the "sur café au lait" version, in browns with some green and possibly purple -unlike any other Emile Galle Cameo vase we have seen the image is mostly in intaglio (i.e. acid cut into the surface). Usually with cameo the image is created by removing the surrounding glass with acid, but with this vase the acid has been used to intaglio cut a beautiful image of Chrysanthemums. The vase signed in cameo (image 7) Provost Mk III -see last image for chart. Emile Galle was probably the greatest glass maker of all time and one of the founding father's of the Art Nouveau movement.
