About the Item

The conical stem filled with colored detergent seems to invade the chalice cup at every sip of our aperitif. Sculpturally beautiful, VELENI’s Martini Glass MG-30g plays on the dichotomy between attraction and repulsion: every time we have a drink we realize the bittersweet message linked to the dispersion of waste in the environment. VELENI is a collection of 12 glass sculptures designed by Lanzavecchia + Wai and crafted by the expert hands of Murano’s glass blowers, a contemporary vanitas shedding awareness on the impact humankind has had on Earth. A series of objects whose beauty can confound, the collection’s interior is enriched by aesthetically pleasing yet extremely dangerous pollutants. Revealed by the transparency of glass whilst isolated by airtight chambers,the appeal of the colors clashes with what they actually represent, making us wonder: how and why is our waste so close to what we consume? Playing with proportions and volumes, the collection allows us to visualize the pollutants generated by our lives, which contaminate our waters and end up on our tables. VELENI hopes to lead you onto a journey of self-discovery, to a maturation of awareness on how pollution is jeopardizing our health, and the environment. About Lanzavecchia+Wai Lanzavecchia + Wai is a creative collaboration between Francesca Lanzavecchia (Pavia, 1983) and Hunn Wai (London, 1980). To them, being designers means being researchers, engineers, craftsmen and story-tellers all at the same time. Lanzavecchia is focused on the relationships objects have and can have with the human body and soul as well as having a fervent eye for future trends. Wai is fascinated by the collisions and fusions of materials, meanings and forms. The works of Lanzavecchia + Wai were exhibited during the Biennale Internationale design Saint-Etienne, the London Design Biennale, but also in museums such as the London Design Museum, the MAK - Museum of Applied Arts - Vienna, the National Museum of Singapore, the Triennale di Milano, the Pratt Manhattan Gallery - New York, the Singapore Art Museum, the MAXXI Museum - Rome and the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum - New York. Their pieces are part of prestigious international collections including the Rhode Island School of Design Museum and M+ the Hong Kong museum of visual culture. Their work spans from special commissions for major brands and museums like Hermès, La Triennale di Milano, Wallpaper*, MAXXI, M+ Hong Kong, Antolini, Tod’s, AgustaWestland, Alcantara, to mass products for brand like Zanotta, FIAM, Living Divani, LaCividina, Cappellini, De Castelli, Gallotti&Radice, Bosa, Nodus, Mirage.
