Mid-19th Century Neoclassical Gilt Footed Glass Goblet/Cup with Hand-Made Paint

About the Item

Mid-19th century neoclassical gilt footed glass goblet/cup with hand-made paint By: unknown Material: glass, paint, cut glass Technique: cast, hand-painted, cast, painted Dimensions: 5 in x 8.5 in Date: mid-19th century, circa 1840 Style: Neoclassical, Revival Place of origin: Austria (probably) This mid-19th century goblet embodies the neoclassical style popular across Europe at the time. Crafted from glass, its conical shape features gilt decoration on the rim. A hand-painted scene depicts a woman relaxing under a tree as a playful cupid looks on. While the artist is unknown, the skilled artistry reflects neoclassicism's reverence for antiquity. Inspired by ancient greek and roman art, the Revival style prized order, symmetry and classicism. This goblet's pastoral motif and restrained ornamentation exemplify hallmarks of mid-19th century Neoclassicism. Despite its age, the piece remains in excellent condition, a testament to the artistry of the era.
