Orrefors Ariel Glass Vase with Busts of Women Designed by Edvin Öhrström 1960

About the Item

This Orrefors Ariel glass vase was designed by Edvin Öhrström and produced in 1960, as indicated by the markings on the bottom of the vase. The vase features the busts of two women, with one on the front and one on the back The busts are framed and separated by simple, geometric shapes. The design is rendered in a deep red/brown making for a nice contrast with the clear glass. The Ariel technique utilizes colored glass and trapped bubbles to create the designs that are cased in clear glass. This technique was developed at Orrefors, and Edvin Öhrström was one of the designers who refined and utilized it.
