Thomas Webb Bronze Glass Vase c1880

About the Item

Heading : Thomas Webb bronze glass vase Date : c1880 Origin : Stourbridge, England Bowl Features : Clasically inspired form reminiscent of greek urns. The effect is achieved using emerald green glass and applying metallic compounds to produce the outstanding iridescence. Marks : Acid etched WEBB JTHR PATENT Type : Lead Size : 18.5cm height, 11.1cm diameter Condition : Excellent, no chips or cracks Restoration : None Weight : 682 grams The patent application was submitted in August 1877 and was granted in February 1878. The desire was to imitate glass that has accrued natural iridescence when buried for a milleniam or two. This was achieved via exposure to the fumes produced by strontium, barium and tin chlorides and oxides in the kiln.
