Gilt decorated Queen gothic papier mache tray
About the Item
This very decorative and striking Queen gothic papier mache tray is decorated with inlaid abalone shell and a fantastic gilt chinoiserie scene to the central cartouche which itself is surrounded by C-scrolls, stylised flowers and pendant foliage. It is unmarked, but of very good quality. The length is 730 mm (28.75 inches), the width 545 mm (21.5 inches) and it stands 30 mm high (1.25 inches). It has had a few, reasonably well done repairs, and I have tried to show these in the last four photos. C 1840.
