About the Item
A fine and rare Chamberlain Worcester 'Baden' shape breakfast cup and saucer decorated in pattern 864 with the crest of Sir John Hullock c.1815. An ostrich's head between two wings, holding in the mouth a horse-shoe.
Sir John Hullock 1767-1829 was Judge and Baron of the Exchequer. Plates with full arms display Hullock impaling Martin. Motto 'Tentanda Via Est' , 'The way must be tried'. Hullock resided at Thorngate House, Barnard Castle, Durham, which he enlarged to entertain other Judges
Condition: Some minor rubbing to the gilt around the rim
