Chinese Famille Noir Mille Fleur Assembled Service

About the Item

A large assembled set of Chinese porcelain mille fleur wares. The set featuring a full tea service, as well as various plates, cups, and saucers. All piece in the mille fleur, or thousand flowers, pattern, on a black ground. All pieces marked with various marks, including Guangxu, Qianlong, and Jingdezhen. Pieces in the set date from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Comprised of: One teapot with lid One sugar pot with lid One creamer One platter Six coffee cups Six tea cups with lids Six tea cup saucers Six dinner plates (10" diameter) 21 dessert plates (5.5" diameter) Two large bowls and covers One large bowl One rice bowl Condition of the pieces is fair, many with small nicks and chips. Most of the handles restored.

The dish or charger of intriguing leaf-shaped form, with serated edges, and set upon a short foot. The shape seemingly based on a Meissen design. The porcelain decorated with a courting scene of a couple in a garden setting. They are surrounded by flowering bushes and trees. Butterflies draw nectar from the flowers, while dragonflies flit above. In the foreground are a pair of very plump quail. Decorated in underglaze blue enamel on a white ground, the blue and white decoration actually is based an Kakiemon pattern of the same period.
