Georgian Derby Cup and Saucer Duo in Pattern 561, Puce Mark Circa 1800

About the Item

This is a good porcelain duo of a cup and saucer by the Derby factory, made during the George 111rd period, circa 1800. Both pieces are well potted in the Hamilton flute shape with 18 vertical facets. The hand decoration is very well done, in an all gold gilded pattern 561 showing a deep outer border of leaf and seaweed design between two gilt rings, with one at the rim. The handle is also gilded to the outer part of the loop. This pattern is listed on Page 302 of John Twitchett's book on Derby Porcelain, published by the Antique Collectors' Club. Both pieces are fully marked with the Derby Crown, crossed batons with "D" under, together with 561 (the pattern no.) below, all hand painted in puce, which indicates an early date of about 1800. Overall a very good example of Derby porcelain.
