Hochst porcelain teapot & cover, c. 1755.

About the Item

Hochst porcelain teapot and cover, c. 1755. The globular body, hand painted with a farmer and a shepherdess, seated beneath a tree, on a riverbank. The man holds a footed bowl of fruit; all within red lined, gilt scrollwork panels. Sprays of flowers adorn the rest of the teapot. Having an elaborate scroll handle, and a serpent headed spout. The cover painted with sprigs of flowers, and surmounted by an asparagus tip finial. Incised ‘NL’ mark to the base. Length – 18 cm, 7 1/8”. Height – 13.5 cm, 5 1/4”. Depth – 11 cm, 4 3/8”. Condition – Chip to footrim, typical, minor wear to the gilding. No restoration.
