Large Porcelain Animal Figure, Silver Pheasant, Rosenthal Selb Germany, C. 1923

Admirable Art Déco Figurine by Rosenthal: Large depiction of a silver pheasant sitting on a leafy branch with sparse polychrome painting, blue-grey plumage, head turned backwards. On an irregular natural base, artist's signature 'KÄRNER' on the top of the base behind the animal. Manufactory: Selb / Bavaria / Rosenthal Germany Dating: manufactured 1923 Material and technique: porcelain / chinaware / painted / glossy finish Design: THEODOR KAERNER (1884 - 1966) German porcelain and animal sculptor, 1898–1903 training as a modeller at the Hutschenreuther company, 1914 and 1921 enrolled as a guest student with the animal painter Heinrich von Zügel at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, worked as a permanent sculptor in the Nymphenburg porcelain factory in Munich, later as Freelancer at the Rosenthal company in Selb, he was then employed as the artistic director of the Allach porcelain factory until 1945, in 1938 he was appointed professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Design of Model 679 in 1923. Dimensions: height: 62.0 cm / 24.40 in width: 75.0 cm / 29.52 in depth: 23.0 cm / 9.05 in Marks: Green Rosenthal mark with crown and crossed rose stems / Rosenthal / Selb-Bavaria Model number 679 Inscription 'KÄRNER' on the top of the base behind the animal.
