Meissen Group Six Figurines Allegory of Earth by Acier Model D 83

About the Item

Large Meissen group of figurines which are Allegory of Earth assembled around a Lion's Figurine. Manufactory: Meissen Hallmarked: Blue Meissen Sword Mark (underglazed) First quality model number D 83 / painter's number 49 / former's number 65 Dating: made circa 1870 Material: porcelain, glossy finish, multicolored painted Technique: handmade porcelain Style: Rococo Designer: Michael Victor ACIER (1736-1799) / modelled 1775 . Acier was born in 1736 at Versailles, he was trained as sculptor in Paris; the sculptor went to porcelain manufactory of Meissen in the year 1762: The artist created many excellent figurine groups in Watteau style. Finally Acier went as Royal Saxon Model Master to Dresden in the year 1780. Specifications: The earth- a handsome young lady being crowned - sits on a Lion which has spread itself on rocky base. Four children (cherubs) - three boys and a girl - surround the Earth. These figurines are busy with different activities: With raking, with presenting flowers to Earth as well as with collecting vegetables = the boyish child lying on ground at front side seizes a sickle / it supports itself on a basket filled with various vegetables. The Earth holds a cornucopia with fruits - this one is symbol of plenty as well as of wealth. The figurines and their fabrics are excellently coloured in various shades / the flowers are stunningly sculptured as well as delicately painted, too. The figurines' features are of outstanding beauty, a fact which indicates the highest quality of modelling here ! The figurines are based on oval rocky support.
