Ridgway Hand Painted and Gilded Trio

About the Item

This delightful Ridgway hand painted and gilded porcelain trio is decorated with Ridgway's pattern 2/824 on their Round Embossed shape and comprises a tea cup, a coffee cup and a shared saucer. The gilding has been very delicately done and enhances the hand painted flowers. The only mark is the pattern number 2/824. Examples are shown in plate 631 of Berthoud's "A Compendium of British Cups", and plates 97-99 of Godden's "Ridgway Porcelains". The condition is excellent, with only a couple of small pieces of grit from the kiln that have settled in the bottom of each cup, to detract from it. It would date from around 1820.
