19th C. English Wedgwood Match Striker Blue Tortoiseshell Glaze with a Tan Rim

About the Item

A Wedgwood Majolica earthenware pottery match holder and striker, Staffordshire, England – circa 1869. For the hearth, kitchen or bedside, the holder is ribbed for lighting strike-anywhere matches, the bottom tray is for the spent sticks. The base is colored with a deep Cobalt blue, ochre, and brown mottled tortoiseshell glazing, a light brown rims the striking area. Measures: 4.75 in. Diameter x 3.25 in. Height Impressed Wedgwood with a date cipher, and the painters number 7 mark. Overall crazing and signs of light wear.
