An exceptional, fine and impressive, composite pair of antique English sterling silver gravy boat made in the George II style; an addition to our dining silverware collection These exceptional antique sterling silver gravy boats have an oval shaped, naturalistic form, in the classic George II style. The shaped body of each piece is plain and unembellished with an applied gadroon decorated border to the shaped rim. The sauceboats are fitted with exceptional cast sterling silver opposing scroll handles featuring a leaf decorated scrolling thumbpiece. Each example of antique silverware is supported by an impressive cast spreading foot, reflecting the formation of a leaf. This composite pair of sterling silver gravy boats was crafted by William Hutton & Sons Ltd; one gravy boat bears the hallmarks for London, 1896 and the other pertains to Sheffield, 1908. Condition These antique sterling silver sauce boats are an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The cast ornamentation is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each sauceboat are all very clear. This impressive sterling silver claret jug has an ovoid form onto a circular domed foot. The body of the jug is embellished with a fine and impressive chased tapering swag design incorporating large graduating convex ovoid bead decoration amidst a shaped paralleling border with trefoil motifs on a matte background. The tapering cylindrical neck flares to the shaped rim, which is ornamented with an applied bead decorated border. The neck of the jug is encircled with bead decoration flanking a broad band of chased decoration reflecting the identical design to that of the swag decoration.
