20thC Art Deco Silver Plated Cocktail Shaker, Keith Murray For Mappin & Webb
About the Item
A superb 20th Century classic Art Deco silver plated cocktail shaker, dating back to the 1930's. Designed by Keith Murray for Mappin & Webb. This piece has six cocktail menus engraved around the body, including some rarer American cocktails such as "Bronx" & "Sidecar", making it an unusual piece, the body of the shaker holds an in built strainer and is of a tapered shape. A fantastic piece of barware, perfect for any home. Similar examples feature in the V&A Museum in London.
Keith Day Pearce Murray originally came from New Zealand but relocated to England at the age of 14. Although he initially trained as an architect, his passion for illustration led him down a different path before transitioning into a full-time designer. He began freelancing for renowned glassmakers Steven & Williams and later ventured into creating designs for Wedgwood pottery. Murray also showcased his metal designs through collaborations with Mappin & Webb. Notably, in 1936, he assumed the role of the lead architect responsible for designing Wedgwood's innovative new factory in Burlaston. Post-war, he reverted to his architectural pursuits.
