Very Good Pair of 19th Century Silver Plated Wine Coasters by Elkington & Co.

A very fine & impressively large silver plated soup tureen by Elkington & Company of London with a capacity to hold 4 quarts. The substantial oval body having open handles, richly decorated with embossed & engraved foliate motifs & centered by blank foliate cartouches, the conforming lid bearing engraved heraldic crests. Raised overall upon a stepped oval foot, with the underside bearing impressed factory marks for Elkington & Co., together with date letter for 1884. ELKINGTON & COMPANY: George Richards Elkington & Henry Elkington were the first to discover and patent the silver plating process in the 1830's. They were subsequently awarded Royal warrants to several members of the British Royal Family including Queen Victoria, King Edward VII, King George V, Queen Mary & King George VI. This is a truly magnificent and highly distinguished pair of antique Victorian silver-plated five-light, four branch table candelabra by the renowned silversmiths Elkington & Co, Birmingham, bearing the Elkington mark with date letter for 1873. Each of these splendid candelabra features a stunning fluted stem with Corinthian Capital cast socket and detachable arms with four foliage cast branches, each terminating in a tapering socket with a further central socket. To add even more splendour to this superb pair, they stand on an impressive square shaped bases decorated with classical urns. The undersides of the candelabra bear the registration number 18123.
