19th Century Antique George IV 1815 Sterling Silver Wine Ewer or Flagon
About the Item
A magnificent, fine and impressive, large antique George IV sterling silver wine ewer/flagon made by William Bateman I; an addition to our range of collectable wine and drinks related silverware.
This magnificent antique George IV sterling silver flagon has a baluster shaped form onto a circular pedestal foot.
The lower portion of the large, plain body is embellished with fluted decoration.
The upper rim and foot are encompassed with impressive applied gadroon decoration.
This magnificent example of antique silverware is fitted with an impressive chased reed decorated scrolling handle ornamented with a chased acanthus leaf decorated thumb piece.
The upper portion of the handle is further ornamented with a circular floral medallion to an imposing leaf decorated upper socket.
The lower portion of the handle is embellished with an applied waterleaf design in addition to a pierced decorated lobed honey suckle style scrolling terminal in junction with the body.
This sterling silver flagon, crafted by the renowned and very collectable London silversmith William Bateman I, is an exceptionally large and important piece of antique silverware.
Condition
This antique wine ewer is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The applied and chased decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface are very clear; the hallmarks are very sharp due to the exceptional gauge of silver.
