The mirror may be used to convert the handle back into a jar with a silver lid.

Birmingham was the birthplace of John Grinsell & Sons Ltd., formerly known as Grinsell & Bourne, which changed its name in 1864.
John Grinsell and his sons Thomas Bywater Grinsell, James Erazmus Grinsell, Lorenzo Grinsell, and Joseph Charles Grinsell began a new firm in Birmingham when their previous partnership broke in 1871. The Victoria Works at 57 Tower Street in St. George's, Birmingham served as the firm headquarters, while London and Glasgow served as showrooms. Items of glass, stoneware, and ceramic with silver mountings were the company's forte. John Grinsell & Sons Ltd. was founded in approximately 1905, and it was afterward acquired by Barker Ellis & Co Ltd. In 1879, the trademark featuring "Cupid on a scroll" was off.
