Antique Solid Silver Gilt Mother of Pearl Knives Set of 6 - 19th C. Dutch
About the Item
We are delighted to offer this beautiful set of solid silver gilt 19th-century Dutch knives made in the Southern Netherlands c.1840.
This set features a most wonderful and ornate mother of pearl handle and solid silver gilt design which glistens majestically under lighting (or even better, with candle light).
Each blade, cartouche and terminal features a fully gilt surface (gold on top of solid silver) which not only serves an aesthetic purpose but prevents the silver from tarnishing and protects the surface.
The contrast between the rich gold tone on the silver and the bright MOP white/iridescent colour makes it particularly delightful and adds an accented aesthetic no matter the setting, whether be it a part of a collection or on top of a dining table.
Whilst classically elegant and timeless in design, this set can also be practically used in the modern day, on its own or with accompanying antique wares which most certainly elevates the ambience of an interior.
The blades of the knives are marked with small 19th C Dutch hallmarks that were used in the Southern Netherlands between 1814-1842 (present day Belgium,Luxembourg & Maastricht).

- Antique Victorian Solid Silver Gilt Naturalistic Leaf Spoon Pair, 1842By Sebastian Crespel IILocated in London, GBWe are delighted to offer this fine and exquisite pair of early Victorian solid silver tea spoons made in London 1842 with the maker's mark of Sebastian Crespell. The pair features a highly ornate and desirable 'naturalistic' design with the entirety of the spoon-shaped as a leaf and branch. Intricate engravings on the leaf bowls and the realistic form of the stem/branch indicate a high level of craftsmanship and artistry by the silversmith. Upon close inspection, the asymmetric and naturally flowing design is further apparent and is a delightful touch. Not only are these spoons practical for a wide variety of uses from tea to desserts, but are a modest yet discerning addition to any collection or interior decor for a sophisticated and nature-inspired look. The pair is gilded with a yellowish/lemon hue that has been worn and patinated in a very attractive colour/tone. A full set of English hallmarks are present on the reverse side of the bowl.
