About the Item

A fine antique Victorian English sterling silver mounted blown and acid etched glass decanter made in the Aesthetics style, part of our diverse wine and drink related silverware collection. This fine antique Victorian glass and sterling silver decanter has been crafted in the Aesthetics style of the late 1800s. The blown glass decanter has a plain gourd shaped form onto a circular collet foot. The letter 'R' surmounted by a baron's coronet is acid etched to the front of the glass body. The decanter is fitted with a fine hallmarked English sterling silver mount modelled in the form of a bamboo stem. The mount is embellished with a realistic bamboo leaf decorated, spreading shaped lower border in relief. The mount is encircled mid way with a bamboo leaf decorated girdle. The rim of the mount displays the inscription 'Jones 41 St James's St & 23 Bt Des Capucines, Paris'. The decanter is fitted with the impressive hallmarked pierced bamboo leaf decorated stopper. The stopper has a plain boss onto the original cork. Condition The antique mount and stopper are an excellent gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition. The interior of the decanter has been professionally cleaned, and the glass is in perfect condition. The hallmarks struck to the surface of the mount and to the stopper are all clear.
