Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Chamber Candlestick
About the Item
A fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver chamber candlestick in the George I style; an addition to our Victorian silver candlestick or candelabra collection.
This fine antique Victorian sterling silver Chamberstick (chamber candlestick) has a plain circular form in the George I style.
The well is plain and unembellished, encompassed with a plain elevated border.
The plain cylindrical capital retains the original detachable hallmarked sconce ornamented with a plain applied moulded border.
This antique chamberstick is fitted with a stylized Trefid pattern handle, embellished with two contemporary bright cut engraved crests of a squirrel sejant eating a nut to the right of an elephant and castle.
The underside of the handle features a decorative rounded socket.
Condition
This antique silver chamberstick is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition. There are some natural fire marks to the well, in keeping with age. Full hallmarks struck to the rim of the well and sleeve of the sconce are all very clear.

These magnificent antique Georgian English sterling silver candlesticks have a plain subtly tapering columnar form. The large and impressive Corinthian capital of each candlestick retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconce ornamented with a plain moulded rim. The cylindrical columns are supported by a cuboid plinth to an impressive plain square stepped three tier base. Each plinth is embellished with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting the Head family coat of arms encircled with a belt accented with the family motto 'Study Quiet'. The bases retain the original contemporary engraved inscription 'A token of respect from Francis Head to her aunt Dame Mary Ann Head. 1803' to the lowest tier. Both candlesticks are fitted with turned mahogany bases to the underside. These magnificent Georgian candlesticks were crafted by George Eadon, George Kibbles & John Weaver of George Eadon & Co. The title ‘Dame’ was the traditional style for the wife of a baronet at this time and before although it was interchangeable with the title ‘Lady’.
