Martin, Hall & Co Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Gilt Claret Jug and Goblets

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver claret jug with matching goblets; an addition to our range of wine and drinks related silverware. This exceptional Victorian sterling silver parcel gilt set consists of a claret jug and two matching goblets. This impressive antique claret jug has a rounded ovoid shaped form onto a domed circular foot. The body of the jug is embellished with fine and impressive interlacing bright cut engraved decoration, incorporating pensile leaf motifs to the composed arches. The tapering cylindrical neck flares is flanked with applied bead decorated borders and is ornamented with further bright cut engraved interlacing stylised designs. The jug retains the original hallmarked cover, paralleling the undulating rim and surmounted with a bead decorated urn style finial. This antique claret jug is fitted with a fine and impressive cast scrolling handle, embellished with further bead and leaf decoration, in addition to a floral rosette to the upper terminal. Each goblet has a rounded bell shaped form onto a tapering knopped pedestal and circular spreading foot. The antique silver goblets are ornamented with bright cut engraved decoration reflecting that of the jug. Each piece of this exceptional set is parcel gilt and the goblets retain the original gilding to the interiors. This exceptional wine and drinks compendium is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This antique sterling silver set is an excellent gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in excellent presentation condition. The bright cut engraved ornamentation is very crisp and the applied decoration is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of each piece are all very clear.
